Davy Jones - A Little Bit Me A Little Bit You

Review by Robert Best

A Little Bit Me A Little Bit You, the fourth album by Davy Jones, is a delightful collection of pop and rock tunes that showcase the singer's versatile voice and charming personality. Released in 1970, the album features a mix of original songs and covers, ranging from the upbeat and catchy "Girl" to the soulful and poignant "Rainy Jane".

One of the highlights of the album is the title track, "A Little Bit Me A Little Bit You", which was written by Neil Diamond and became a hit for The Monkees in 1967. Jones' version is slightly slower and more mellow, but still captures the song's infectious melody and romantic lyrics. Another standout track is "I Can't Believe It's Me", a funky and groovy number that showcases Jones' dance moves and vocal range.

Notes

  • This single was pressed for a contest that Davy Jones ran for his new label "Davy Jones Records". The promotion was called "My Favorite Monkee". The dead wax numbers (R-908/R-909) correspond with the ones found on the 4 records pressed on this label.
  • This was initially going to be the Monkees 3rd single (the release of which contributed to Don Kirshner getting fired). The single was withdrawn and reissued with a new B-side. However in an under-the-table agreement with Kirshner, Davy was still able to use these recordings for his label "Davy Jones Records".
  • While this is credited to Davy Jones, both recordings are by the Monkees. Yet the only "Monkee" on the recordings is Davy Jones.
