The album Beauty Within by Charnett Moffett is a masterpiece of contemporary jazz that showcases the virtuosity and creativity of the bassist and composer. Moffett, who has played with some of the most renowned jazz musicians of our time, including Ornette Coleman, McCoy Tyner, and Art Blakey, delivers a set of ten original compositions that range from introspective ballads to upbeat grooves, from intricate harmonies to catchy melodies.

The album opens with "Afro Blue," a pulsating tribute to the African roots of jazz that features Moffett's agile bass lines, Jana Herzen's soulful vocals, and Brian Jackson's atmospheric keyboards. "Freedom Swing Song" follows, a swinging tune that showcases the tight interplay between Moffett and drummer Corey Garcia, as well as the fiery solos of saxophonist Antoine Roney and trumpeter Irwin Hall.

"Inside the Sunset" is a haunting ballad that highlights Moffett's lyrical touch on the acoustic bass, while "New Love" is a joyful celebration of romance that features Moffett's electric bass and Herzen's uplifting lyrics. "The Last Word" is a funky jam that showcases Moffett's mastery of the slap bass technique and his ability to create catchy grooves.
