You definitely know it's the TEMPTATIONS when you hear Eddie on top and Melvin down on bottom..
Remember when he hit the scene 1963 and this song was big on the black radio stations on the East Coast. Haven't heard it in decades Boom!!!
Hard to believe that this sounds like the 4 seasons.
What a great track
little Sevie make me miss little Michael Jackson.
Two GOAT, Love both so much
Two GOAT, Love both so much
we played this repeatedly at teen club with precision footwork and would challenge other teen clubs to dance contests. todays teens got cheated out of the best years to grow up in.
Little Stevie and the Temptations -- who could ever ask for more? I only wish Berry Gordy had already made enough money to upgrade the studio so the great James Jamerson's bass playing could be heard further up in the mix. That probably would've made this song the big hit it should've been.
I have to add to that... I grew up there (Detroit) too as well was skating at the Arcadia (65-68) and all that ❤️ bout the same age 8 - thru - today
Temps on background.
This is one of my all time favorites...and it takes me back to 1962, my first days at Horace Mann, Jr. Hi School in Los Angeles!?
This was a local hit in Detroit in the spring of '63.
1963 !!! I was ten years old and knew the very first time I heard it that it would or could not be duplicated. Stevie’s range on this song was absolutely out of range for any singer. Then there was “ You met your match” again his vocal range was unmatched by any. Thank you Stevie !!!!!!!
This here gem was the reason both Little Stevie and the Temptations were among Detroit's best kept secrets. Stevie's lead vocal alone has plenty good meat on it's bones. And anyone who thought Motown didn't do much quality doo wop has only to listen carefully to how Melvin Franklin (resident bass man) gets da feelin' at the end of the record. Just think, Stevie's next release was a song called...uhhh…"Fingertips." And the group so ably having his back on this record would just over a year later end it's own losing streak with "The Way You Do The Things You Do." Sometimes you just know....
The best.
The jam! Was 11 years old growing up in Detroit. Wonderful music back then!
The Temptations on backing vocals!
