Love for sale is a sad prostitute song to me, the gay boys looking for love, nobody sing it with that in mind ......Cole porter movie go watch you will understand this song , nobody ever translate right most don't get it........
Nothing wrong here with Dianne Reeves or the band, of course. It's just a little thing that annoys me about most renditions of this song. It's too upbeat. It should be a tragic, cynical song about a prostitute selling her body in the streets. It should be sung much slower; the way Billie Holiday did it, for example. Yet most singers prefer to focus on the upbeat melody. It's just a little thing, but it does annoy me. Am I the only one thinking that?
