1979/80..Pure joy
Forgot to say I was actually playing Let me be the one.... when I googled this ? Up The Mods
Paul has such an amazing voice, why wasn't this band a huge success?
Got all 4 singles ,remember a lively night at the Painted Lady I ran a coach from Leicester how many songs did you play that night ?. Came down to London to see you a few times . Great days
The Venue 31st October 1980, 2 shows that night and all for 3 quid ?
Rumour has it there is a new album coming out next year to celebrate the step sometime in March I think. Keep your eyes peeled ?
I saw The Step with Secret Affair and both bands were amazing - think it was at The Rainbow . I still have `Let Me Be The One'. `Love Letter' and `Tears That I Cry' on vinyl and still play em!
just the best aye .... saw then twice supporting secret affair .. one of the best bands live EVER ..
Never thought I'd see this on here, I used to go and see them, I remember going to Dingwalls, have looked on Face Book to try and find Chris Copping( chrig) I used to work alongside him in good old British Rail from 1977 to 1981, I often wondered what happened to him.
Can we have more of The Step uploaded please :-)
I still have 2 of the 45's released, this one & let me be the one .
There was a band called the scandal that released casualty of love & comic book hero.
Produced by ( a sort of relative ) John Collins who also produced Ghost Town by The Specials.
From what I can remember , members of the scandal went on to form the step...
I'll "try" & upload the step tracks A&B sides..

saw these at painted lady nr melton one friday night in 80s
Classic power pop!
Heavens above! I'm one of the two guitar players from the Step, amazing to see there is still interest in the music.
Still friends, and in touch with, Mike (drums), Steve (guitar), and Chris (bass), and had thought about putting the band back together for an occasional foray, but could never find Paul - and here he is playing soul. Hope you're well, Paul.

I had tears that I cry and let me be the one...singles. Till my mother gave my record collection to the cats protection league !!
love this
Can you please give us the flip side-- their version of land of a thousand dances??
thought I was the only person who remembered this.Anyone knnow if the band did ever release an album??
@Thestaxbrother Paul - glad to hear you're still alive and kicking . . . saw you guys at the Rainbow Oct 1980 and you managed to blow headliners off stage . . . few months later a mate of mine - Simon Jeffreys - joined your re-vamped line-up for a while, then I didn't know what happened to you lot . . . I moved out of the country and lost touch with Simon. Anyhow, glad to hear your still singing, will check out your site. BTW, absolutely love this song, got all of your singles, still play 'em
@paulopbroughton Don't think so. Singles were "Let me be the one," "Tears that I cry," "Love Letter" and 'Chain Gang." Don't know if they had any more releases as The Step after Chain Gang, which was released in 1982.
What memories this will be on at Here's Jonny gig at club tomorrow. A definate
