Shiny And Oh So Bright is the tenth studio album by alternative rock band, Smashing Pumpkins. The album, released in 2018, marked the reunion of original members Billy Corgan, James Iha, and Jimmy Chamberlin.

The album features a mix of classic Smashing Pumpkins sounds with modern elements. It opens with the energetic "Knights of Malta" and continues with the catchy and upbeat "Silvery Sometimes (Ghosts)". The album also includes the slower ballads "Travels" and "With Sympathy".

One of the standout tracks on the album is "Solara", which was released as a single prior to the album's release. The song features heavy guitar riffs and Corgan's signature vocals.

Shiny And Oh So Bright is a solid addition to Smashing Pumpkins' discography. The reunion of the original members brings a sense of nostalgia to the album, while the modern elements keep it fresh and relevant. Fans of the band will not be disappointed with this album.

Your perception of this album will be mostly relative to what kind of a Smashing Pumpkins fan you are. For example, if you're one of those fans who loves Gish, Siamese Dream, and half of Mellon Collie and the Infinite sadness, but hates pretty much the rest of their discography, you'll probably like 35% of this album. If you're one of those fans who loves all the original albums, but thinks their strongest work was post-Mellon Collie, you'll like maybe 70% of this album. Lastly, if you're one of those fans who just loves all of this band's albums with a live-wire passion, you'll probably love this album nearly 100%. I am, personally, one of those fans who loves all of their albums - my favorite being Machina II. I'm not saying there's a right or wrong way to be a fan - I mean, to each there own... You may love this album. You may hate this album. Either way, good for you, you have an opinion. So do I, and that is what I'm jotting down in this review.When the single version of "Knights of Malta" came out, I was quite disappointed. I really didn't like it. Of course, being the super-fan that I am, I "liked" it, but in reality, I did not like it. However, hearing it in the fuller context of the album as a whole gave me much more tolerance for it."Silvery Sometimes (Ghosts)", is, in my honest opinion, a newly birthed gem of a classic Pumpkins song."Travels" exists as a mildly underwhelming beauty, and not much more.At first I had very mixed feelings about "Solara". Finally, after five months of listening, I've begun to love it. It fits so well within the context of the holistic album. I almost like to think of it as a break from the underwhelming, peacefulness of the preceding three songs."Alenation" seems to be getting some mixed feelings within the realm of Pumpkins fandom... I, however, love it. It's different than a lot of previous song installments, and I think that's what I like about it. There's something agonizing about the way he says the lyric "alienation"..."Marchin' On" is great. Crunch. Nasally whines. Rock on. Nothing more to say."With Sympathy" was really quite nice. Again, rightfully underwhelming, alike "Travels"."Seek and You Shall Destroy" isn't getting enough attention, I feel. It's great! A nice semi-metallic riff buried in Billy's nasal-noise. It ended rather abruptly, like "Anti-Hero" on Monuments...And I think that's what people feel like is missing on this album - the spirit of earlier installments. There wasn't a long, drawn out ending - (see Farewell and Goodnight, Luna, or Blank Page/17). There was also a lack of reliance on instrumentation... I found that Billy began singing within the first 15 seconds on nearly every song, unlike "Cherub Rock"... Now, those two things are merely things noticed, neither good nor bad, again, relative to an opinion. They do, however, divorce the Smashing Pumpkins from they're incredible legacy, for better or worse.
