Petra - Beat The System

Review by Abbie Grizzle

Petra's "Beat The System" album is a classic Christian rock album that is a must-have for any fan of the genre. The album, released in 1984, includes 10 tracks that are a mix of hard rock and pop rock, all with a strong message of faith and hope.

The album's opening track, "Beat The System," sets the tone for the rest of the album with its upbeat tempo and catchy chorus. "Clean" is another standout track that features a driving guitar riff and powerful vocals by lead singer Greg X. Volz.

Other notable tracks include "It Is Finished," a ballad that showcases the band's softer side, and "Voice In The Wind," a song with a driving beat and powerful lyrics.

"Beat The System" is a timeless album that is still relevant today. It's a testament to Petra's talent and dedication to spreading the message of Christianity through rock music.

I recall as a teen how much these songs helped me find Strength to overcome what to teenage me was so painful.

I found myself remembering that and here I am

Thank you for your hard work on all these Petra songs. Generally I am a song person and not favoring any music groups, except for Petra. I am a totally grateful Petra fan, especially the 80s songs. I've been a Christian for 40+ years and thought I would thank you before I go home to Heaven. I can't take tomorrow for granted. God bless you Unknown Petra Fan.

Awesome! I went Petra concerts in the 80s. Thank you for bringing back good memories and writing the lyrics in the two languages I can read!

Satan's party has to be canceled in order to create the powerful master plan to eliminate him from this planet in order to rise up and create a newly kingdom, and beat the system through time travel, to save everyone, instead of loosing everything, by beating the system, you will soon get your lions share of wealth and power in your advanced kingdom created back in time and have everyone in heaven and the fallen angels in hell. You will become more than a conquer my friend if you do.

When I first heard any of the songs on this album, it was Adonai. I instantly fell in love with it. A few months later, I stumbled upon the CD copy my Mom made my Grandparents (back when 56kbps internet was normal), and put into my laptop,Beat The System is a great introduction to the sound of the rest of the album, setting the stage for what was going to come next. Computer Brains was an interesting song to follow, almost relying on Fairlight and Synth sounds. Clean is a great feel good song, with bright blips and guitar licks. It personally one of my favorite songsIt Is Finished is another interesting tune. It talks about the death of Jesus Christ like no other song I've heard could, very powerful. Voice In The Wind isn't a song I can remember good when telling someone the track listing for the album. It doesn't grab my attention like the first four do.God Gave Rock And Roll To You is the best song on the album in my point of view. The chorus is very "in your face", the verses are jumpy, and the music brings it all together. Witch Hunt is a great song that is also funny at the same time. It reminds me of the Salem Witch Trials, but in a good way. Also, the voices towards the end of the song are good.Hollow Eyes is the basically the dramatic climax of the album. It's a very serious song. The verses talk about people around the world suffering for many reasons and the chorus makes you think about how you react when you see someone hurting on the streets. Speak To The Sky is almost like Voice In The Wind in the way that it doesn't grab my attention. But it is a good reminder to pray.Adonai is the ending track for the album and it is a great conclusion. The guitars are most shown in this song, with the cool solo Bob Hartman wrote. The main keyboard progression keeps the song going and before you know, the song is over.Overall, if you are looking for a great album to add to your collection, I recommend picking up this one. You won't be sorry. :-)

This stuff is ok but prefer their John Schlitt stuff by a country mile. Still good to have had some Christian rock music in the early 80's though.

As our country goes corrupt, we must never give up on our homes, God wants us to fight for what's right for not only ourselves, for our families

this song kind of has like an Eye of the Tiger type of feel and sound from the group Survivor. Both soungs sound like they are the underdog, or over looked. However there were a few bands that did make songs like this during that time

It's a rapid fire list of cliches, but I always liked the bridge lyrics in this song. 2:44 Go for it all, go for broke, turn the tide, aim for the top, take the Lion's share, hold your ground...Beat the System!
