Nocturnus AD's latest album, Paradox, is a stunning work of technical death metal that showcases the band's exceptional musicianship and songwriting skills. This album is a welcome return to form for the band, which released its debut album in 1990 and has since undergone several lineup changes.

The album's opening track, "Seizing the Throne," sets the tone for the rest of the album with its complex guitar riffs, intricate drum patterns, and haunting keyboard melodies. Well this is an unexpected pleasant surprise, even more so than Possessed's return from the dead. Over the last 2 decades, countless old bands have reunited (some actually adding to their legacies, some just for cash grabbing nostalgia shows). One would've thought that with metal's increased popularity in the new millenium, that anyone thinking of reuniting would've done so by now.So the fact that the highly influencial Nocturnus have just released such a quality follow up to The Key some 29 years after the fact, is very satisfying indeed. What most bands face when deciding to record albums after long periods away from the studio, is the decision to either play it safe by trying to sound exactly like they used to, with no updates/progression, or to add more modern elements to their formula. The first option can lead to it sounding stagnant, the second can come across like they're chasing trends. Both lead to disappointing results for fans.Nocturnus have struck that perfect balance. Although the fact that their original sound was already so forward thinking for it's time sure helps a lot. It sounds exactly as a fan of The Key would hope, very similar but not dated. It almost exists in a time vacuum, it sounds totally otherwordly. It could've been made in 1990 or this year, it's just timeless, like all great music, devoid of trends but not forsaking modern technology either.Mike's vocals are unique

This is a great album! If listen to it 1.25x in YouTube, you will remember from The Key times! I'm not kidding or disrespecting the band. I'm a big fan of Nocturnus! Is a big inspiration to LoneHunter.

MIKE BROWNING IS NOCTURNUS!!!! remember purchasing THE KEY on cassette at Wee 3 Records , i don’t remember the year , felt like possibly 1990? a time when the Florida death metal scene was fucking insane , R/c records and METAL BLADE were the big 2 that had all the greatest new acts and albums in the death metal genre and like said bought NOCTURNUS the key on cassette with out even hearing a second of this album and hooked instantly… THE WHOLE CONCEPT OF MIKE BROWNONGS WORK TOWARDS THE ASTRO-SATANIC -FUTURISTIC amazing!! lyrics , keyboards, leads, bass, drums … AWESOME FUCKING DEATH METAL ALBUM
