ma quanto è figa la pettinatura di Herbert?
The absolute affectioN and love Karajan (the actual director of this movie) shot Oswald Voegler and his magic timpani are the greatest trademark of this unique performance, which is definitely the ultimatE word on this symphony. Simply superb. Always a thrilling emotion to watch it, as I watched it 33 years for the first time and bought it dearly, first on VHS, then Laserdisc then DVD.

I watched the entire performance last night. On my SONY Bravia HDTV it looked and sounded spectacular!
The picture quality was sensational - you can see dust motes in the air from time to time (!). Although the image was probably converted to 16:9 widescreen from a 4:3 original, I never felt the image had been chopped to fit a modern screen.
Thank you, Digital Concert Hall, for making special arrangements to "borrow" these concerts from Unitel! Because you have all four Brahms Symphonies in your archive - as well as a Dvorak No.9 - this is a special treat I'm enjoying.
My only complaint: no Sarah Willis, Emmanuel Pahud, Albrecht Mayer, Rachel Helleur, Maja Avramović, Daishin Kashimoto, u.a. - this takes a while to adjust to!

The cinematography in these Karajan videos is so much fun! It would be fun to see a modern Berlin video in this style. It's so easy to picture Rattle pulling that off beautifully.
