Review by Jackie Ewing

The album Four Symphonies by Haydn, Mozart, Schubert, and Mendelssohn, conducted by Haitink, Monteaux, Marriner, and Sawallisch, is an exceptional collection of classical music. This album features some of the most renowned symphonies of the classical era, including Mozart's Symphony No. 41, Haydn's Symphony No. 94, Schubert's Symphony No. 8, and Mendelssohn's Symphony No. 4.

The performances on this album are outstanding, with each conductor bringing their unique style and interpretation to the music. Haitink's interpretation of Mozart's Symphony No. 41 is particularly noteworthy, with his focus on the clarity of the orchestration and the precision of the ensemble. Monteaux's rendition of Haydn's Symphony No. 94 is equally impressive, with his attention to the playful and witty elements of the music.

Marriner's interpretation of Schubert's Symphony No. 8 is a highlight of the album, with his emphasis on the emotional depth and complexity of the music. Finally, Sawallisch's performance of Mendelssohn's Symphony No. 4 is a fitting conclusion to the album, with his attention to the light and lively elements of the music.

About Haydn Mozart Schubert Mendelssohn, Haitink, Monteaux, Marriner, Sawallisch

Born: 1732-03-31 (Rohrau, Austria) Born 31 march or 1st April, 1732. Died: 1809-09-05 (Vienna, Austria). Franz Joseph Haydn was an Austrian composer of the Classical period. He brings the "sonata form" to a very high degree of improvement. His symphonies and his string quartets (forms of which he is considered "the father") have become highly inspirational style models. Haydn made a fundamental contribution to the development of chamber music; thanks to the numerous quartets, trios for piano, for strings and also with the unusual trios for baryton, viola and cello.
