Notes
- The Flames album was pressed in a run of 1,000 promo copies and distributed to record labels by Michael J. Richards. It was never officially released. This CD version is the first commercial release of the album and includes 12 bonus tracks. Two bonus tracks are cassette rehearsal records from 1980. The remainder are unreleased solo recordings made by singer Michael J. Richards from 2009-2013.
- Only the front of the sleeve is laminated.
- An original Brother recording.
- For this album (recorded in the USA) the group 'The Flames' (originally from South Africa) changed their name and the name of the album to 'The Flame' in order not to be confused with James Brown's 'Famous Flames'. When the album was released in South Africa, however, the name was changed back to 'The Flames' (for the release by Trutone listed here) because the band had become famous as one of South Africa's top bands under that name before moving to Britain and later to the USA. The band had originally become famous through cover recordings and in this album their own recordings did not prove as popular. The album sold badly in South Africa. The band disbanded when two of their members joined the Beach Boys in 1972.

Great songs
the flames was the best music band to come out of Overport,Durban,South Africa back in the late sixties now in 2013 people still listen to them and Steve is known all over the world.the flames rock
this song is really really great. this whole album just blows my mind with percussion and harmonies.
From South Africa. This has been called “The Beatles next album after
Abbey Road” and “The solo album Paul should have made”. Song fragments
are strung together as suites; harmonies abound. Engineered by Steve
Desper, this is the first quadraphonic album ever recorded. Produced by
Carl Wilson. 1970.

Very Beatle-y
My friend went to school with david battley.
Anyone else recognize Ricky Fataar? He was in the Rutles!
Super Badfingery
S.A. music can rock with best.
smoke a barrie white
Although The Flames (Soul & Motown covers in their early years), they showed their TRUE potential when they released this album ! The best thing that they ever did. Very Beatles influenced, but without losing the Flames sound & identity. It's one of the Best ALMOST "forgotten" albums of SA. If you don'tye have this album - Get It ! Listen also to Blondie's solo albums are they are nothing short of excellent ! Especially Rock n Roll & Ostrich Man.
The lost Rutles album!
The one "dislike" is probably from Mike Love.
Best song ever out of Africa!
Stig O’Hara!
