Review by Nina Roesner

The album "Tears Of A Clown Hands Off Shes Mine Twist Crawl" by English Beat is a perfect representation of the band's unique style and sound. The album features some of the band's most popular hits, including "Tears Of A Clown" and "Hands Off She's Mine."

The album is a perfect blend of ska, reggae, and pop music, and it's easy to see why it was so popular during its release. The band's catchy melodies and upbeat rhythms make this album a joy to listen to, and it's clear that the band members were having fun when they recorded it.

The album's standout tracks include "Twist and Crawl," which features a catchy bassline and an infectious chorus that will have listeners dancing along. "Save It For Later" is another standout track, with its upbeat rhythm and catchy melody that will have listeners humming along for days.

About The English Beat

2 Tone Ska revival group formed in 1978 in Birmingham, England by guitarist/vocalist with (bass) and (guitar) along with rapper/toaster (), drummer and veteran Jamaican saxophonist (Lionel Martin). As there was an eponymous US group emerging at the time they were forced to use the names The English Beat on their North American releases and The British Beat briefly in Australia. The band enjoyed immediate chart success and established their own record label . After the split in 1983, Steele and Cox went on to form and later while Wakeling, Ranking Roger and Saxa formed . Saxa and Everett Morton also formed , with some guest appearances by Ranking Roger who also joined members of in . Until recently, two different versions of the band toured fairly frequently: "The English Beat starring Dave Wakeling" (a.k.a. , based in California, U.S.A.) and "The Beat with Ranking Roger" (a.k.a. , which also featured Ranking Roger's son , and was based in the UK.) The latter group ended with the death of Ranking Roger in Spring of 2019.

Für mich die beste Ska-Band. Danach Specials und die frühen Madness.

I love this record by “the beat”. I know the rename of the group was for the American market but it does make me feel sick.. because the whole point of the ska movement was meant to dissolve racial barriers, which it did in the UK. So sticking “The English” on the front of the name completely screws that. Not the fault of the superb person who uploaded this (hurrah) but if needed to be stated. Vibe le difference and Black Lives Matter!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Pushing 50, I shouldn't be liking this music. But boy do I love me some English Beat. Sounds just as good now, as it did back then. Awesome band. I grew up with this stuff. We had some of the best music ever.
And this is an absolute freakin' supreme amazing cover of a hit Motown song. I would argue it's as good or better than the original, with it's total twist and tight rhythm of music style. I wonder what Smokey thinks of it. 1980's had so much amazing music.

I sing this periodically at karaoke. Want to sing their other stuff at karaoke too. When I discovered their music & decided they are my fave band, they broke up that same yr, 1984, ..that hurt. But I got to see them in concert in 2000s when they were touring. Love The Beat

An American mate of mine always calls them The English Beat but I've only ever known them as The Beat. Did they change their name or have I been getting it wrong since about 1979 :-)

I used to listen to this back in the day on headphones... if U listen close, U'll notice that on the line, "... but in this lonely room I cry..."; one of the stereo channels drops out, as if to underscore the loneliness the singer is enduring. Awesome piece of production, and a STELLAR cover!!! R.I.P. Ranking Roger

If ever a great song was butchered and trashed this is it. Horrendous. Smokey Robinson's original is such a classic. This is total bollocks.
