Review by David Woodkirk

Don Richardson's album, Mississippi Sawyer Durangs Hornpipe, is a delightful collection of traditional American fiddle tunes. The album showcases Richardson's virtuosity on the fiddle, as he expertly navigates the intricate melodies and rhythms of each piece.

The album opens with the title track, "Mississippi Sawyer Durangs Hornpipe," a lively and upbeat tune that sets the tone for the rest of the album. Richardson's playing is both precise and passionate, as he deftly weaves his way through the tune's intricate phrasing.

Other standout tracks on the album include "Old Joe Clark," a classic fiddle tune that showcases Richardson's impressive speed and dexterity on the instrument, and "Bonaparte's Retreat," a hauntingly beautiful melody that highlights the fiddle's ability to convey emotion and mood.

Throughout the album, Richardson is accompanied by a talented group of musicians, including guitar, banjo, and bass players. The group's chemistry is evident in their tight, cohesive sound, and their ability to seamlessly blend together to create a rich, full-bodied sound.
