Depeche Mode, the iconic English electronic band, released their fourteenth studio album, Going Backwards, in 2017. The album, produced by James Ford, features twelve tracks that explore the band's signature sound with a contemporary twist.
Going Backwards opens with the title track, a slow-burning number that sets the tone for the album's dark, brooding mood. The album's lead single, "Where's the Revolution," is a politically charged anthem that urges listeners to take a stand against the status quo. Other standout tracks include "Cover Me," a haunting ballad that showcases Dave Gahan's emotive vocals, and "No More (This is the Last Time)," a pulsating track with a catchy chorus.
Depeche Mode's sound on Going Backwards is a masterful blend of classic synth-pop and modern electronic music. The band's trademark use of synthesizers and drum machines is still present, but there are also moments of experimentation and sonic exploration.
