Review by Jay Byrne

Symphony Nos 11 & 9 by D Shostakovich, performed by The USSR Ministry Of Culture Orchestra and conducted by Gennadi Rozhdestvensky, is an outstanding album that showcases the brilliance of Shostakovich's compositions. The album features two of Shostakovich's most celebrated symphonies, which are known for their complex and emotive themes.

The first symphony, Symphony No. 11, is a powerful and moving work that captures the tumultuous events of the Russian Revolution. The orchestra delivers a stunning performance, bringing to life the sweeping melodies and dramatic flourishes that make this symphony one of Shostakovich's greatest works.

The second symphony, Symphony No. 9, is a more lighthearted and playful work that showcases Shostakovich's versatility as a composer. The orchestra's performance is equally impressive, capturing the whimsical and joyful nature of the music.
