Review by Patrice MALEVILLE

Carmen McRae's A Collection Of Her Finest Decca Recordings 1955-1958 is a brilliant showcase of the jazz singer's artistry and range. The album features a selection of McRae's best-known and most beloved tracks from her early years with Decca Records, including "You Took Advantage Of Me," "My Funny Valentine," and "I'm Glad There Is You."

McRae's smooth, sultry voice is on full display throughout the album, and she effortlessly navigates each track with her trademark phrasing and impeccable timing. The arrangements are lush and sophisticated, with a mix of ballads and uptempo numbers that showcase McRae's versatility as a performer.

One of the standout tracks on the album is McRae's version of "Baltimore Oriole," a haunting ballad that showcases her ability to convey emotion and vulnerability through her voice. Another highlight is "The More I See You," a swinging track that features McRae's effortless scatting.

Such a great tune! Great voice of a great artist.

Thanks for posting this gem by the one & only Ms. Carmen McRae. As great a musician as this country's ever produced, but also the best vocal friend to any of the lyricists who were lucky enough to have her interpret their songs as if she wrote them herself. Every time I've listened to her, I think always about her statement that even more than the music- for her- the lyrics must have something even more for her to sing the song. And as we know, she sings every song like she's lived it. Her live version of "Look At That Face" still can make a grown man blush.
