Tony, some years ago I was trying to find BuckWheat's version of this song but only came up with Tim Hardin's version. So I finally gave up.  See, back in the summer of 1969 while living in Los Angeles, I used to hear it on the radio station that Wolfman Jack used to DJ for.  Thank you ever so much.

Im very proud to say that Debbie Campbell was my cousin! She had an amazing talent that can be heard in this song! If anyone was fortunate to hear her sing live you know what Im talking about. She is missed by many but her amazing voice will live on forever!

Saw them as a warm up band for Uriah Heap.  I liked the first part of show better.

Thank you for posting this song. I knew Mike Smotherman. They were playing all the teen hop places our band ( Buddy & the Bums) was playing in the mid 60's around Elk City & Sayre, Okla. He later went on to be a big star with Buckwheat & writing some real cool stuff for Glen Campell. What a voice Mike had.

This song is about my Uncle. Sgt. William E Reed. He was a friend of Mike Smotherman from Erick, Ok. Uncle Billy was killed in Vietnam in 1971. .. this song has meant so much to my family.

This has to be one of my favorite songs, it gives me goosebumps listening to it. I have two of these albums. Saw them at the jubilee auditorium in Calgary in the early seventies. Thank you for putting this on you tube, I have been waiting a long time.
