Björk - Hidden Place DYR Remix

tedmorrissey

Review by Ted Morrissey

The album Hidden Place DYR Remix by Björk is a unique and refreshing take on the Icelandic artist's original work. The remixes, produced by Mark Bell under the moniker DYR, transform the tracks into a pulsating and atmospheric soundscape that is both experimental and accessible.

The album opens with the title track "Hidden Place," which has been given a new lease of life with the addition of a driving beat and swirling synths. Björk's vocals are still present, but they are now layered over a more complex and textured backdrop that enhances the song's emotional intensity.

Other standout tracks include "Cocoon," which has been transformed into a hypnotic and trance-like journey, and "Pagan Poetry," which is given a more industrial and abrasive edge that perfectly complements the song's raw and sensual lyrics.

Verandi
hafandi eyrað í vasanum
hafandi augun í skónum
ástarbréf í maganum
vönd af kossum í munninum
kyrr!
hafandi haf af girnd
hafandi loðna löngun um mjaðmirnar
hafandi sjón sem að sér þegar það er slökkt
og gott bil milli fótanna
kyrr!

Curious, that 'verandi' translates into English as 'being'.
'who'/'wer'(Germanic) 'láta af hendi'/'render'/'reddo'(Latin) is a derivative of this form.
"Who creates." (Feminine word.)

This track is amazing but it wouldn't fit Vespertine at all. I don't know why but it makes me imagine a dangerous mayan moist jungle surrounded by snowy mountains. Such an intense imagery.
