Well, Alyne ‘s life , is a touching story worth to read…
From back cover:
‘’Alyne Meshad. First born in a family of six children given to Floyd and Margaret Meshad.
First born, first loved.
Most special Alyne was accepted from the beginning as a regular Meshad
with irregular gifts and ways, times were hard in the late 30's, Alyne was given every opportunity to progress at her own speed. As all of us were, Alyne was no exception…but she was exceptional, she attended an exceptional school for the retarded in New Orleans.
When she reached 16, Alyne returned to Birmingham to help our mom manage an energetic family of 5 girls and 1 boy, ranging from 1 to 16 years of age. She made it. Quite clear that she was the oldest and was to be respected as well as loved. Alyne or not. Sibling fights were only held to a minimum. Sibling fun, however, was taken to the maximum. We all shared a unique sense of humor with "Miss Al". Alyne lectured us to obey our parents…mind our own plates and don't mess up her room.
Her years at the Magnolia School had taught Alyne reading, printing, neatness, and discipline.
More discipline than any of us understood, that is… until the Christmas of 1970. With the rest of the children grown up and away, and grandchildren coming into our family, Alyne's brother-in law, Tom Wells, felt that she might find some amusement "plunking" on her own guitar. Little did he know what that special Christmas gift would mean in the years to come.
The household had narrowed down to mom, dad, smokey the cat, and Alyne. So, she had some extra time to express and amuse herself. She was impressed with the guitar and immediately began strumming, and strumming, and strumming. No particular melody, just lots of strumming.
Our mother, in her usual merciful wisdom, decided guitar lessons were in order but who would have the special patience, understanding, and expertise to teach Alyne? Prayers are obviously heard and we were sent David Walbert…a concert classical guitarist in his own right, head guitar instructor for the fretted instruments shop in Birmingham.
For ten years, Alyne slowly, deligently, and lovIngly worked with David…and David with Alyne.
Through this special labor of love, Alyne can now play and sing on her guitar as well as read music.
She can even "pick" difficult solo melodies. More than can be said of many top music stars. The apparent "impossible" dream was achieved because our Alyne didn’t say she could or could not learn to play. She just did it. Day by day Alyne became a true musician, now, she shares her music with you…her family…her friends.
From Alyne… with love.
