16Volt - SuperCoolNothing

Review by Luis Colmenares

The album SuperCoolNothing by 16Volt is an explosive and intense display of industrial rock music. The band delivers a powerful and dark sound that is both hard-hitting and atmospheric. The album is a collection of tracks that are filled with heavy guitar riffs, thunderous drums, and electronic elements that create a unique and haunting sonic landscape.

The album starts off with the track "Skin" which sets the tone for the rest of the album. The song is a driving force that features a pounding beat and distorted guitars that are sure to get the listener's attention. The vocals are aggressive and intense, adding to the overall energy of the track.

Throughout the album, 16Volt showcases their ability to create dynamic music that is both heavy and melodic. Songs like "Happy Pill" and "Alkali" are perfect examples of this, featuring catchy hooks and memorable choruses that will stay with the listener long after the album has ended.

The album also features a number of slower, more atmospheric tracks such as "Suffering You" and "The Cut Collector". These songs showcase the band's ability to create a mood and atmosphere with their music, adding a level of depth and complexity to the album.

About 16Volt

With its roots originally planted firmly in the industrial rock genre, 16volt has remained a mainstay enjoying a worldwide underground fan base and successfully crossing over into multiple genres for years. 16volt's founder, lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist Eric Powell signed his first record deal at a very young age and subsequently delivered three albums; Wisdom, Skin, and LetDownCrush. Working with co-producers; David Ogilvie (Nine Inch Nails), Keith Fluffy Auerbach (Ministry), Jeff "Critter" Newell (Angels & Airwaves, Blink-182) and special guests William Tucker (Ministry), Marc LaCorte (Schecter Guitars), and Bryan Black (Black Asteroid). These three albums earned worldwide praise and garnered features in Guitar Player, Alternative Press, B-Side, Kerrang!, CMJ, Industrial Nation, B-Side, and more. Reaching a #1 slot on Rolling Stones alternative charts (LetDownCrush) as well as a #2 slot on Rolling Stones alternative charts (Skin), the band made a mark as they consistently charted on both college and national radio. 16volt then brought on producer Bill Kennedy (Nine Inch Nails, Megadeth, Sepultura, Mötley Crüe) to make the highly recognized album "SuperCoolNoting" (Mercury/PolyGram) - featuring renowned film composer and musician Joseph Bishara (Insidious, The Conjuring, Marylin Manson, Danzig), Chris Vrenna (Nine Inch Nails), Mike Peoples (Skrew), and Kraig Tyler (Crazytown). 16volt is prominently featured in the PlayStation game Primal. In 2007 16volt signed a multi-album deal with Metropolis Records and released FullBlackHabit (2007), "American Porn Songs" (2009), and "Beating Dead Horses" (2012) to a hungry underground fan base with guests such as Paul Raven (Ministry, Killing Joke, Prong); Steve White (KMFDM); Bildeaux (Lance Herbstrong) and mix engineer Shaun Thingvold (Strapping Young Lad, Lamb of God). 16volts touring resume includes road stints with the likes of Korn, Orgy, The Flys, Candlebox, KMFDM and more, as well as multiple successful headlining tours. In early 2016 16volt entered the recording studio in Portland, Oregon to begin writing and recording a new album with producer Marc Jordan (Velvet Revolver, The Cult, Stitched Up Heart, The Mowglis, Hyro Da Hero, Bleached, Die Antwoord). The new album titled "The Negative Space" was released independently on September 14, 2016. Never satisfied and as always prolific... In early 2017, 16volt (Eric Powell and Steve Hickey) entered the studio to begin work on their 10th album effort "Dead On Arrivals" which was released in October of 2017. 16Volt is currently supporting the new EP on various global festivals and shows.

2022- heard this on a YouTube movie Red Team, reminds me of something else, like Stabbing Westward, Tool, NIN, and something else..... too bad they haven't been more out there these last few decades.

This was the one track from Primal that I loved more than anything. It defined things for me for a long portion of my life. I still come back to it from time to time and I hope that is what 16 volt intended.

Nine Inch Nails and 16 Volt are different bands, created by different people. Although they were both created at relatively the same time, they both had different intentions with their music. Both bands probably haven't even heard of each other, haha.

I found this song via Primal aswell, thou in form of a PS2 "Demo CD".
I still got hooked to both of the 2 in 1 strike of seeing that.
